Pilot Projects
Another activity under the umbrella of the project is to provide technical assistance and support for the implementation of pilot projects to enhance energy efficiency in existing buildings.
Those projects can be used as case studies for the local engineers and technical workers where they would be intoduced to materials that can be used to improve the thermal insulation during the implementation.
There are three pilot projects, namely:
- Commercial Project: to be carried out in the Palestine Capital Studios (PCS) in Ramallah (a media center). The six-stories building has an area of 1800 square meters. It includes offices, studios, editing suites, master control room, transmission stations and other facilities such as meeting rooms, press club, and media store.
- Public Project: to be carried out in Wadi-Alfarah Primary School for Girls. The project aims at adding a new expansion of 372 square meters. The project will be funded by the LRDP-UNDP/PAPP in Jenin District.
- Residential Project:
is being carried out at a roof of a residential 8-story building with an area of 200 square meters in a Altira neighborhood in Ramallah.
A thermal insulation layer of 3 cm thick Polystyrene was added to the roof slab, and a sloping screed layer with an average of 8 cm thick concrete and 8 mm steel grid was added to the thermal insulation layer.
The external walls will be insulated by adding a layer of 3 cm polystyrene and a layer of 7 cm hollow concrete blocks.
Find below some photos for the roof slab insulation.
